Kolonihagen has always been for those who want things done differently. Founded by idealists, the brand set out to make clean, organic food more accessible—better for people, better for the planet. But as they scaled through their partnership with REMA 1000, the challenge became clear: how to maintain their pioneering spirit while appealing to a broader audience.

Everland helped reposition Kolonihagen, making the brand more welcoming without losing its edge. By refining the strategy, visual identity, and packaging design, we transformed Kolonihagen from a niche organic company into a progressive movement.

In It Together

Way before it was mainstream, Kolonihagen promoted animal welfare and environmental responsibility. Since 2004, the team has delivered meal boxes and started a bakery and a restaurant while collaborating with like-minded brands and entrepreneurs. When Norwegian discount retailer REMA 1000 bought a stake in the company, it allowed Kolonihagen to get their message beyond the Norwegian capital.

However, the rapid growth also sparked a feeling of having lost some control over the Kolonihagen brand. It was time to revisit the core. Working closely with the team, Everland rediscovered a guiding principle that reflects the founding spirit, “We who want it differently”. Five simple words that encapsulate an idealistic, innovative and insatiable appetite for change. At Kolonihagen, you never arrive; you’re just one step further in the right direction.

From brand strategy to the new visual identity and packaging design, you’ll find a shared spirit of idealism, community and innovation. Gone are farming pastiche and naturalistic romanticism; instead, you’ll find a playful, smart and refreshingly friendly Kolonihagen. No longer a moralising do-gooder, but your partner in crime.

The offset silk screen styled illustrations take centre stage on the packaging. Inspired by the handmade and imperfect nature of organic ideals, it represents humanity and honesty and creates a rich contrast to the tight grid system in black and white. This system frames the story behind every product and initiative at Kolonihagen. It’s a grid made for all of us with an appetite for change.
